Dr. Tara Karamlou is the 2nd John W. Kirklin Fellow in the CHSS Data Centre, July 2004 to June 2006. Her undergraduate degree is in Biology (magnum cum laude) at the University of Washington, Seattle. Tara graduated in medicine in 1999 with High Honors at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. She entered General Surgery residency in Portland at the Oregon Health & Science University in 1999.

In 2002, Tara received the Nina Braunwald Research Fellowship from the Thoracic Surgery Foundation for Research and Education for 2-years study in basic science. She worked in Dr. Ross Ungerleider's laboratory developing novel miniature cardiopulmonary bypass circuits for neonatal cardiac surgery and demonstrating the positive effects on preservation of brain, myocardial and other vital organ function.

During her tenure in the CHSS Data Centre, Tara produced many publications and presentation and is in the process of completing her Master's degree in biostatistics at the University of Toronto . Her thesis title is "Integrating Time-related Parametric and Longitudinal Data Methods to Analyze Outcomes in Congenital Heart Surgery". She has earned many academic awards as an undergraduate, during medical school and in her post-graduate work. She has contributed to the development of a uniform nomenclature for congenital heart surgery through her participation on the STS Congenital database Workforce. She has also received consecutive grant funding from the Children's Heart Foundation both in the basic science realm and to investigate long-term outcomes in the CHSS cohort of children with pulmonary atresia and intact ventricular septum.

Tara completed her congenital surgery fellowship at Seattle Children's Hospital In 2011, and is now a clinical researcher and professor of surgery at Cleveland Clinic Children's within the Heart, Vascular, and Thoracic Institute (HVTI) and practices clinically as a congenital heart surgeon.
