Back to John W. Kirklin/David Ashburn Fellowship
Dr. Jeff Poynter was the 6th John W. Kirklin/David A. Ashburn Fellow in the CHSS Center for Research and Quality, and began his tenure with us in July 2011. He completed his B.S. in Cell and Molecular Biology at the University of Michigan in 2005. He went on to complete his medical education at the University of Michigan, graduating in 2007. Currently a 3rd year General Surgery resident at Indiana University, Dr. Poynter obtained support from the National Institutes of Health for his research concerning the role of stem cell-based therapies in myocardial ischemia/reperfusion. The NIH continued to fund him during his two year tenure at the Center for Research and Quality.
Jeff also recently defended his thesis titled Application of Parametric Hazard Analysis with Time-Dependent Covariables To Analyze Durability of Right Ventricle-to-Pulmonary Artery Conduits Implanted in Infants and Young Children with Congenital Heart Disease, under the guidance of Dr. Christopher Caldarone and earned his Masters Degree from the Institute of Medical Science at the University of Toronto. After completing his fellowship in Toronto, Jeff has returned to Indiana to complete his general surgery residency training.
